DÁNDOLE PESO A LOS BESOS

This work, titled Dándole peso a los besos (Giving Weight to Kisses), was specially created for the Bogotá Biennial — BOG25 Bienal de Arte y Ciudad de Bogotá, titled Ensayos sobre la Felicidad (Essays on Happiness), which opened in September 2025 under the curatorship of María Wills. It consists of a gigantic six-meter-high monolith, located in the Plazoleta Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada. Its surface has been covered with thousands of kisses, printed with red lipstick by the artist himself and by all those who wish to participate.

In this way, the piece becomes an open memorial, a monument that invites participation and celebrates radical tenderness. By installing this enormous stone next to the empty pedestal where the statue of Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada once stood, the work proposes moving beyond colonial monumentality and creating new symbols that are more inclusive and participatory. At the same time, this collective action of filling the stone with kisses transforms its hardness into something loving, affective, and tender.
