The sculptures from the Excerpts series evoke a ruin, a fragment imagined as part of a larger architectural whole. The artist invites the viewer to picture the façade of the building from which this piece might have been removed. On its surface appear excerpts of statements, atomized and rendered incomprehensible by the fragmentation that defines the sculpture. Like works from other related series that also evoke vestiges (Among Us), the various Excerpts were produced in concrete; the artist plays on the contrast between the material’s contemporary nature and the imaginary world conveyed by the notion of ruin.
Through these creations, he seeks to give new life to these decaying imaginary architectures. In doing so, he transforms the work of contemporary art into a monument to the passage of time and its perpetual forward rush, to words left unspoken that belong to an indefinable space-time.
